The Expendables 3 (2014) [Movie Review]

Unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to re-watch the first two Expendables films prior to my viewing of the latest sequel. I was severely dissapointed in myself for not planning further ahead to do so, but knew that ultimately it didn't matter. You don't watch The Expendables for the plot, you watch it to have fun. And in that sense, this film does not disappoint.

The film takes no time getting right to the action, as they break out the former Expendable 'The Doc of Death' (Wesley Snipes) from an extremely heavily guarded transport. From there the plot expands to tracking down an ex-Expendable who has now taken a villainous path.

I feel like that is kind of an overused plot. But then again, The Expendables are supposed to be kind of an '80s throwback, so I'll let it slide. Like I said, the film is action-packed - which is the main reason people watch action flicks.

The majority of the performances are pretty phoned in, which wasn't really a surprise, but still kind of a let-down. You should never expect an Oscar-worthy performance from something with Stallone at the helm, but it still takes some of the enjoyment out when the characters are portrayed so stiffly.

However, the humorous writing mixed with aforementioned action makes the film a fun way to spend 2 hours. This is by no means a must-see, but it's a fun popcorn flick. If you're an action movie fan, you'll probably enjoy this, just remember that it's nowhere near perfect. It's just fun.
