Blended (2014) [Movie Review]

Do... do I have to review this movie? I've already sat through close to two hours of a movie that that is as 'cookie-cutter' as they come, and now I have to write about it. Whatever, here it goes.

I'm not going to comment on the preposterous plot this film has, I suspended my disbelief. In addition to suspending my disbelief, if I want to truly enjoy a film such as this, I have to forget any movie I have ever seen. Forgetting that other movies have creative writing and good pacing helps to make this film watchable. I am happy for Adam Sandler, he no longer needs to prove himself. He is basically retired and gets more money every time he goes on vacation or gets together with his friends. I am happy for him. I am sorry for any film buff that has to sit through Sandler's recent films.

I'm not going to say this film isn't humorous, I laughed at quite a few scenes. The humor isn't 'smart' humor, and it's never hilarious. Many jokes recur throughout the duration of the film, most of which get old rather quickly. Again, there are some good jokes muddled between the poor jokes, but they are few and far between.

Like I said in the beginning of this review, this is a cookie-cutter film. If you are unfamiliar with the phrase, imagine a cookie-cutter and how it is used to make several cookies look the same. In this case, this movie is in no way unique. It follows a formulaic plot, one that I would guess everyone has seen at least once in their lives. And as such, within the first 10 minutes of the movie you can figure out exactly how it will end.

In addition to the horrid writing, there are several scenes with audio that is far under par. There is a noticeable difference between the audio in certain scenes; some will sound very nice, others will sound like it came from that Macbeth movie I made in high school (and spoiler alert: that sucked).

But overall, even though it was terrible in most senses of the word, it wasn't a complete waste of time. Though I don't recommend going out of your way for this film, there are some laughs in store for those who happen to watch it.

Rating: 5/10
