Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return (2013) [Movie Review]

Growing up, I always loved watching The Wizard of Oz. To be honest, I don't know of too many people who did not like The Wizard of Oz. I have recently learned that they have apparently been steadily making additional Oz films throughout the years, and the newest iteration is Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return.

Did I mention that I loved The Wizard of Oz? I also thoroughly enjoyed Oz the Great and Powerful. But the charm that both of those films held is completely lost in this horrendous animation. Seriously, this animation looks like it's for a direct-to-DVD film, not something that should have been released in theaters!

But if you can look past that, there isn't any other huge flaws. Just a slew of small ones. The biggest disappointment in this film wasn't really the animation though, I knew it was going to look bad because of the trailers and posters. The thing that was most disappointing is the iconic black and white Kansas was nowhere to be found. Granted, I haven't seen the other movies made throughout the years, they might also have neglected to add that effect, but it's one of my favorite parts of the Oz movies.

This film really boils down to the fact that it knows it's a children's movie. It doesn't do much to entertain the adult viewer, because it knows the children will be entertained no matter what.

I would recommend avoiding this movie when possible. It's not worth the price of admission.
