The Lone Ranger hasn't been on the big screen for over 30 years! Can you believe that? Well actually yes, I can.
In an attempt to bring younger viewers' attention to the franchise, and to make money, we get Johnny Depp playing Tonto - the bad-ass Indian side-kick to The Lone Ranger. In this adaptation; since Depp is playing Tonto, we see the side-kick actually become the main character as he recounts his first encounter with The Long Ranger. Now, sure Depp isn't an Indian, but stuff like this happens all of the time. I find it hilarious that the same people who say we should look for people who can play the part best, regardless of their race are the same people who are complaining about Depp playing Tonto (and very well, I may add).
The problem with this movie is that it tells the story through a narrative from Tonto, which is often interrupted throughout the movie, taking away from the excitement of everything. In addition, the film barely takes itself seriously, and suffers from that.
All-in-all, The Lone Ranger wasn't bad - it's worth a watch. But I would recommend waiting for the DVD release to rent it.
