22 Jump Street (2014) [Movie Review]

21 Jump Street was a film that should have never succeeded. But it's self-aware humor poking fun at other unnecessary remakes and reboots, and an otherwise delightfully entertaining script, made for an entertaining film that did well enough at the box office to warrant a sequel. That sequel, if you didn't catch on, was 22 Jump Street.

In this sequel, the duo goes to college. The plot is the exact same as the first film, and I am definitely going to let it slide for this one. This film is even more self-aware than the first. They discuss things such as having bigger budgets, 23 Jump Street and beyond, it's plot being eerily similar, the success of the first film, and list goes on. The film comes close to having too many self-aware tidbits, but ultimately found the perfect blend of it's various comedy forms.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have perfect chemistry, making this movie so much fun. Constantly making parallels to their partnership as a "partnership" made for consistent laughs. It might have been my good mood that made laughing so easy, but this film had me laughing almost literally from start to finish. Every joke is perfectly timed and executed, and again, it's self-aware humor was simply too perfect.

If you liked the first film, I can't recommend this enough. I can't say that this film was better, but I definitely can't say it was worse. Pretty much the exact same level of humor, and it was well worth my ticket price.

Rating: 9/10
