Chef (2014) [Movie Review]

Jon Favreau wanted to make a movie that displayed how it truly feels to work in a kitchen. His end result was Chef, which stars himself as Carl Casper - the head chef at a restaurant that is critiqued early in the film.

After said critique is posted, each character shows their true colors.
As always, I am going to assume that my summary was terrible that it didn't sell the movie in the slightest. I think my next few lines might.

I have worked in a couple kitchen's in my day, even did some cooking in concessions trailers, so when I first heard about this movie, I was incredibly interested. Starring a few of my favorite actors was an added bonus.

While I have never cooked in a restaurant quite like the one present in this film, I can say that most of what I saw was completely accurate as to how things work, and even how people act. So, I will commend Favreau for being able to almost perfectly replicating the kitchen experience.

But to further this review, I am saddened to have to mention it's formulaic approach to story-telling. It followed a few too many tropes or cliches and as such it's overall appeal is lessened. The ending being the most cliched part of the film, almost ruined it for me.

Thankfully, though, the rest of the film was so wonderfully done that I can't not recommend this film. I implore every person who enjoys film and/or has ever worked in a kitchen to watch this film. I don't think you will be dissapointed. As a disclaimer, however, I must suggest not viewing this on an empty stomache. This is a film that you could be eating food during the movie and still be hungry from seeing all of the decadent dishes.
