Grudge Match (2013) [Movie Review]

Ah, the first movie I get to watch in 2014! This is so exciting! This movie has Stalone and DeNiro boxing, it's going to be a comedic Rocky! I can't wait!

Actually I thought none of those things before I saw the movie. It was the only movie playing at the theater that I hadn't seen. Prior to viewing, I thought it looked pretty 'meh'.

And now, after seeing the movie, I would agree with my initial premonition. This movie definitely has some good things going for it, but at the same time has much potential that it just doesn't reach up to.

As you could probably imagine, the two big names attached to this movie play their parts like champs. There are certain parts where they just seemed to be going with the motions, but overall they did a great job. Many of the other characters, however, get so little screen time that even if they played their parts perfectly, it would be hard to notice. Except the kid, he was awesome.

But the writing in this movie is where most of the faults lie. Take, for example, when one of the characters explains more about his family. He just mentions one thing, and none of the other characters ask more about. So much goes unanswered in this movie that it's hard to rate this movie very high.

If you're a budding cinephile, this movie is not for you. But if you're just looking for something to do on a night out with friends, preferably at a theater that sells alcohol, then this movie might just be for you!

So, it is with a light heart that I give this movie a 6/10.
