Animated movies have always, and will probably always remain, geared towards children. And what do kids like in movies? Anything. It really doesn't matter what is going on in the program, a child's eyes will be glued to the screen until it's over. But most parents don't want their 5-year-olds watching movies such as The Wolf of Wall Street; so filmmakers create movies that have no, or at least hidden, inappropriate themes. And those are usually animated, to easily identify them.
I bring this up because most of these children will want to watch these movies in theaters. And that means that the parents will have to sit through every second of it. The kids' opinion on the movie doesn't really matter, he's going to like it anyway, the real test is how the adult likes it.
For this particular movie, I don't think the adults will love it nearly as much as the recent Frozen. The Nut Job is truly nothing more than a generic children's movie. The humor will have your child laughing, but will leave you with nothing more than an awkward chuckle. Seeing as how this movie is about a nut 'heist', the amount of nut-inspired jokes is too damn high! (Get it, because that's a meme. Yeah; that's pretty much the extent of the comedy in this movie). The voice talent is pretty good, but that is truly the only thing that goes above and beyond for this movie.
