House at the End of the Street (2012) [Movie Review]

Many of you already know of my hatred for horror movies, so you can imagine how I felt when this came up on my movie club. Before watching it, someone was nice enough to tell me how great of a movie it was, and exactly how it ended! So, while this was my first time watching the movie, I knew exactly what was going to be happening, which really ruined the experience. My review for the movie might reflect on that.
Okay. So, the movie opens to a cluster-fuck of colors and distortion that was almost laughably bad. Now the horror aspect of the movie is taken out for almost the rest of the movie. Say what? Yeah, this movie is listed as Horror, Mystery, and Thriller; but it's mainly just the latter.

When the movie isn't trying to be scary, it really excels. It looks good, it has pretty decent writing, and it has Jennifer Lawrence. But when it picks back up it's horror roots, it's production value drops surprisingly fast and just re-hashes the formula from every other horror movie you've ever seen.

I thought that the writing was above average, but everything was below average.
