Winter's Tale (2014) [Movie Review]

I'll be completely honest, I don't want to write about Winter's Tale without viewing it a second time. But, for fear of me not having the time to accommodate that wish, I will give a fairly botched review, I do apologize.
Winter's Tale is a charming story of love and miracles. Colin Farrel as Peter Lake; a man who knows nothing about his past and robs people for a living. Everything changes one day when he befriends a friendly horse, who prepares him for his destiny and introduces him to the love of his life, who happens to have a very deadly disease.

I didn't really know a whole lot about this movie prior to release. I saw a trailer and instantly fell in love with the idea. It dissapointed me that this film had no early premiere, yet Endless Love did. But, such is life.

From the opening shot to final credit, this movie delivered on both sight and sound. There was a massive emphasis on light in the plot of this movie, as a result there were several filters and effects put in place to bring to enhance the light, but only when it was important or significant. These looked nice at times, but were distracting other times.

The marketing for this movie was amazing as well. They market it as a simple love story with some fantasy elements, but while watching the movie you get a much better story than what the trailers might have hinted at. The tagline "This is not a true story, this is true love" was a brilliant summary of the movie as a whole.

The performances of most of the cast seems a bit off. The actors were giving their roles about 95% instead of the usual 105%. This is a minor flaw in an otherwise wonderful fairy tale.

I would highly recommend this movie. There are few twists and turns along the way that seem weird, but if you keep an open mind, you should thoroughly enjoy this film.

Rating: 8/10
