Rio 2 (2014) [Movie Review]

In the first Rio, Blu and Jewel must overcome many obstacles to protect the future of their species. In it's successor, they have successfully done just that. But now that more of their species is discovered, Jewel thinks the kids deserve to see their natural habitat.

If you remember my review for Rio, I said that the movie was too cliched to be considered good. Well, this movie is a bit better at not being too cliche. Unfortunately, not by much though.

Having children in this movie really helped the story. There were arguments between Blu and Jewel about what the kids deserve. Should they be allowed to use the gifts of human gadgets? Or should they live like normal birds? Having the ability to have discussions with the younger audience after a movie is always a great feeling. So any children's movie that gives a straight forward question, without a straightforward answer, is a fun movie in my book.

But at the end of the day, while I found Rio 2 to be a bit more entertaining than the first, it's really of similar quality. If you liked the first, you will probably like this movie, if you did not like the first, you will probably not like this movie. And if you haven't seen either, you really aren't missing anything.
