Hours (2013) [Movie Review]

Set in the middle of the 2005 Hurricane Katrina, Nolan Hayes (Paul Walker) must care for his newborn baby. Stranded and alone, he must devise a plan to get him, and his daughter, to safety.

This film is written and directed by Eric Heisserer. I'm going to assume none of you have heard of him, because this film is his first (and currently only) original script (not a sequel or remake), and marks his directional debut. I have to commend him for writing such a powerful film, even if a few moments felt a tad awkward.

I have to imagine Paul Walker's presence in this film had something to do with his charity, Reach Out Worldwide. Knowing that he founded a charity to help in the aftermath of events such as hurricanes makes me think that he was more emotionally invested in this film than certain others. And, as always, Paul Walker was perfect in this role. It is unfortunate that in Paul Walker's most intense film, he is not accompanied by actors that bring the same amount of energy to the table. But, fortunately, Walker is the only person on-screen for a large portion of the film, so everything works out.

In conclusion, Hours is an extremely powerful film, made so with clever writing and superb acting. Do yourself a favor and check this film out.
