Noah (2014) [Movie Review]

Around Easter, it's pretty common to get an overabundance of movies based on Christianity. It makes sense, it's an easy sell. There is a large majority of these movies that are extremely low quality, both in terms of appearance and general feel.

Thankfully, Noah pulls away from the unfortunate norm of these movies. Starting with a cast featuring names that are actually known helps to sell your movie. Having a budget more than a made-for-TV movie helps keep the audience interested in your movie. These simple two facts are reason enough for me to give the claim that Noah will be the best biblical movie to watch this Easter holiday (but I can't fully make that claim until after watching Heaven Is for Real).

Okay, the Christian folk might have caught this from the trailer, but Noah is not a word-for-word adaptation of Noah's Ark. Darren Aronofsky put his creative license to good use with this movie. I am not going to write about what was different from the source material, mostly because I don't know what that would be, but I can say that it was definitely a fun ride.

A good thing about this movie is that it's not just for Christian's, like most other movies with this subject matter. This means that if you are not a religious person, you won't be bored with this movie. It captivates the audience from start to finish, and it won't feel like it's over two hours long.

The movie was good. Not a masterpiece, but wonderful for what it was. The credits were surprisingly nice to watch. There was nothing too special about them, but the placement and execution of them was a nice change-up from the traditional scrolling screen.

Rating: 7/10
