Isn't it nice when a big series with one big character allows another character to take over for a while? I personally love this, well if I like the series, that is. And who doesn't like Batman? He is arguably the biggest superhero in all of comics. And he's definitely the staple of DC Comics. But the main character in this film is truly Jim Gordon, voiced by Bryan Cranston even!
Batman: Year One is, well, the first year of Batman's time fighting crime. Jim Gordon has just began working in Gotham City. Now, being a cop in Gotham city means you get tons of perks, such as doing literally anything you want to do. Jim Gordon doesn't like the way the city is run, but can't seem to do anything about it. Then along comes a "giant bat" who changes things. But every corrupt cop wants him out of business, and Jim doesn't realize he's here for the good of everybody. I hope we all know what happens towards the end of our story...
I was pleasantly surprised by this film. I'm usually not a huge DC fan, and I feel that Batman is a little overrated. I still find Batman to be an interesting character, so I decided to check this one out. Being mainly told from Gordon's perspective, this film was much better than I had expected it to be. It seemed a little too much like Batman Begins, but that might mean that Batman Begins hit the comics spot-on. I don't know, I haven't read a single DC comic in my life. Oh well, still worth a watch if you're Batman fan.
