Quentin Tarantino is best known for his over-the-top action films. And, with a title like "Death Proof", it's pretty obvious this is no exception. Unbeknownst to me prior to viewing this film, it is part of a double feature by the name of 'Grindhouse'. I have purchased Grindhouse, and will watch that, but I'll be watching the other film by itself beforehand. I would have preferred to this vice versa, but I hate knowing too much about movies, so I didn't even look to see what it was about. Oh well.
"What the hell is 'Death Proof'?", I know many of you are asking that very question. The name 'Death Proof' is derived from the antagonists car. Now; the antagonist, Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell), is a man who likes to kill people. He has no real motive, he just wants to have some fun. How does he kill them? With the cars he uses for stunts, of course! They're death proof! We see him terrorize two groups of girls before the film is over.
A bit of an underwhelming story. But it's made great by Tarantino's wonderful writing skills. And I love his cameo roles, him as a bartender? Awesome. Everyone acted their parts pretty good, but like I said, it's just an underwhelming film. Great to watch with your buddies, but you can't expect a powerful story from it.
And how the hell is this not part of his movie universe? When I found out this was part of his Realer than Real Universe, I was flabbergasted. Definitely not Tarantino's best, but still a fun movie to watch.
