Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011) [Movie Review]

Crazy, Stupid, Love wastes no time getting to the action. Right away, we learn that Cal (Steve Carell) and Emily (Julianne Moore) will be getting a divorce. We learn that Cal and Emiliy's son, Robbie (Jonah Bobo), has a crush on the babysitter. And we learn that Jacob (Ryan Gosling) is again a ladies man, but can't seem to land Hannah (Emma Stone). All of this information in less than 10 minutes. You know that you are in for a treat. From there on out, Cal finds himself moping in a bar, while Jacob eventually notices this and decides to help Cal get back on his feet, and into the ol' dating game. Everyone finds different ways to cope, some are more successful than others. Who ends up with who? Watch to find out! Seriously, this movie is awesome.

As stated above, the action and suspense is present from the get-go. Never once during this film will you want to leave your seat. And would you look at that cast? Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon! An ensemble of this variety is bound to be hilarious, but they made it so much more than that. The drama, and plot twists, are what really bring this film together. Holy shit, big plot twists that make you want to scream "OH MY GOD!" Though most people won't.

Even though this film constantly makes notes about being a movie, their barely noticeable. "I'm R-rated sexy" is one line that comes to mind. Though it probably comes to mind because the lovely Emma Stone utters the words. But things like this don't break the movie, they more or less add to it. Hell, I didn't notice all of the references to being a film the first time I saw it.

Everything about this movie is great. Whereas Cal would say it is "the perfect combination of sexy and cute", I would say that is the perfect combination of comedy, drama, and romance. And the twists are still great, even on the tenth viewing. This movie is a must-see for any romantic comedy fan.

Rating: 10/10
