Iron Man 2 (2010) [Movie Review]

With Iron Man being the start and staple of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, a sequel was bound to come fast. Maybe a bit too fast, it would seem.

With all actors and actresses reprising their roles from the first Iron Man film, err except Terrance Howard who is replaced by Don Cheadle. In addition to that cast, Marvel also decided add more fun characters to the roster. Justin Hammer is introduced, played near-perfectly by Sam Rockwell. Also being introduced is one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s greatest agents, Natasha Romanoff; possibly best known as 'The Black Widow', played by the beautiful Scarlett Johansson. And no movie is complete without a bad guy, so we get Ivan Vanko, played by Mickey Rourke.

Tony Stark is gallivanting around as Iron Man. The world is at peace. But still, the U.S. government was Tony to hand the "Iron Man weapon" over to them. Gracefully declining, he says that the technology serves no threat, and no other country will be able to produce it for at least 5 years. Boom, then comes our bad guy. Pretty typical comic book movie.

Many people say that Iron Man 2 is terrible. Now, comparing Iron Man 1 to Iron Man 2, yes it is. But in and of itself, it is still a very entertaining film. We get a nice story of the Stark Legacy and learn a lot about Tony's father. We also get much more information on the Avengers Initiative. Everyone plays their parts perfectly, and the film had good dialogue, but overall the film is just underwhelming in comparison to it's predecessor. I still recommend this film to any comic book fan, and I'd say it's a must-see for anyone who plans on watching The Avengers.

Rating: 6/10

Discussion topic: Was Iron Man a good choice for the staple of Marvel's Cinematic Universe? Can you think of anyone better?
