The Host (2013) [Movie Review]

"Choose to believe. Choose to fight. Choose to love." Somewhat of a bad tagline, but it does truly capture what The Host is all about.

So, what is The Host? So, sometime in the future, aliens invade. And by invade, it's not just invading our planet, they physically invade out bodies. They have taken over nearly all human bodies, but there is a small group who have formed a resistance. Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) is part of that resistance, until she is capture and taken over by an alien. The alien inside must now help the other aliens find the resistance by digging through Melanie's thoughts. But Melanie is strong, she fights the alien and eventually they begin working together. They find the resistance, but how can the resistance trust this alien?

Now, this film wasn't great. But it wasn't bad. As I was saying about, the main theme of this film is love. Without love, Melanie wouldn't have even bothered going back to the resistance. Or even resisting the aliens mind-reading powers. The aliens are a peaceful race, in fact they are only here to save our planet. The humans still choose to attack them. And eventually, a few aliens fight back. But the choose to believe phrase is also very huge in this film. When first found, Melanie is hated by the entire resistance, all but her brother and uncle want her dead. More and more people start believing what she has to say, though.

Overall, this film is definitely interesting. Many will not like the premise, much like Twilight, but if you go in with an open mind, you might just enjoy yourself. Again, just like Twilight, if you don't like love stories, you probably won't enjoy this. But I would recommend this one if you're bored at the cinema.

Rating: 7/10
