Tyler Perry's Temptation (2013) [Movie Review]

Remember after the release of Alex Cross? Everyone was talking about how they think Tyler Perry should do more serious stuff, because he really has a knack for it? No one remembers that? Well I guess I don't remember it either. I actually remember the opposite of that. But apparently someone thought he did a great job, so now we get another serious film from the great Tyler Perry.

So, Temptation tells the story of the life Judith (Jurnee Smollet-Bell). Judith marries young and is content with her life. Until that one sexy, powerful man comes along making her rethink her situation. That's all I'll say about this, there were a few plot twists that are very easily predicted, but I don't want to spoil what is quite possibly the only redemption of this film.

Can you tell that this film wasn't good, yet? Though it wasn't nearly as I thought it was going to be, it was definitely not in the "good" category. The acting from the extras was atrocious. I can handle overdramatic acting, but I can't stand when the "acting" is simply reading their lines. Which is what gave the film such a bad opening. Two people are in marriage counseling and it seems as if they are reading their lines off of a teleprompter. No emotion whatsoever. And then everyone else is overdramatic. Like I said, I don't mind that nearly as much, but there was no one in this film that knew how to act a good way. But what really makes this film so bad is the basic plot structure. Everything is predictable from start to finish, even the huge plot twists are basically given away at the beginning. Hearing people gasp in the theater honestly made me worry about the future of this planet. Oh, and I'm not even going to get into how this film was hilarious, but very little of the comedy was intended. I would not recommend this film.

Rating: 4/10
