Le voyage dans la lune [A Trip to the Moon] (1902) [Movie Review]

After seeing Hugo, my interest for Georges Méliès grew vastly. I purchased two collections of his films from Amazon (Georges Méliès: The First Wizard of Cinema (1896-1913) and Méliès Encore) and thought that A Trip to the Moon would be the best way to start my Méliès adventure, since it arguably his most well-known film.

This film was great, albeit short. Which the same could be said about all of Méliès' films, I guess. The way the space ship hits the "eye" of the moon was creative, and it seems to be a pretty iconic piece of movie history. The whole moon scenes in general were amazing, keeping in mind this was decades before we ever actually went to the moon, everything seemed like it could have happened. Yes, now we know that most of those things are incorrect, but at the time I'm sure people were talking.

Rating: 8/10

Discussion topic: How would you react to being attacked by aliens on the moon?
