Raiders of the Lost Ark is the first movie in the Indiana Jones legacy. This movie, or more-so series, is done almost perfectly. Being written by George Lucas, directed by Steven Spielberg, and placing Harrison Ford as the main character; you know this is going to be good before even sitting down to watch it.
Right off the bat, Indy showcases his brainpower by filling his bag with sand, and avoiding every trap put in front of him. Other things we learn about Jones is that he has a great fear of snakes and a love for archeology - he even teaches it at a university.
So, having a love for archeology, when given the chance to search for the Ark of the Covenant, he takes up that offer. The film is full of action, and wonderful adventures, as Indy travels the world searching, and protecting, the Ark.
The films downfall, however, is it's ending. The Nazi's get the Ark, and open it; then they all die. I was hoping Indy was going to have some trick up his sleeve, but he just let God take care of the Nazi's. Then, after bringing the Ark back to America, they just throw it onto a shelf with a warehouse full of other top secret items. Although that does raise interest for the sequels, so it's a pretty good way to end a film.
