Forbidden Planet (1956) [Movie Review]

Forbidden Planet takes us on adventure to planet Altair IV, a planet formerly inhabited by scientists, but had went silent - all were assumed dead. Landing on the planet, we learn that it still inhabited by two people. Dr. Morbius, (Walter Pidgeon), and his daughter, Altaira Morbius (Anne Francis), the two are also accompanied by Dr. Morbius' creation Robby the Robot, who also appears in other popular movies throughout the years. Dr. Morbius is a mysterious character, but runs the planet quite nicely. His daughter, Altaira (sometimes referred to as Alta) is a naive and gullible young lady; never having seen another human that wasn't her father, some of the crew attempt to take advantage of her, but the Commander John J. Adams (Leslie Neilsen) saves her, while also acquiring a love interest for her. Eventually, Morbius shows Commander Adams around the planet, the advanced technology the previous inhabitants left behind. The mysterious death of the race that previously inhabited the planet puzzles everyone on the planet, but figure the puzzle out at the end of the film.

It's clear to see why this film has the following it has. It had an amazing script, featuring space exploration before we even made it to the moon! Had an amazing cast, starring Leslie Neilsen, introducing Robby the Robot, and everyone else making the film feel almost real. We can't forget the amazing special effects in this film! Forbidden Planet may have been made in 1956, but the effects looked like something from the '70s! It's clear to see why even the poster had "AMAZING" written right onto it, Forbidden Planet is a must-see for any film lover.

Rating: 9/10

Discussion topic: Robby the Robot can do basically anything, including being able to recreate any substance (in the film, the cook on board had Robby make 60 gallons of whiskey). If you could have Robby do one thing for you, what would it be?
