I'm going to start having different reviews go on this blog than on Reddit, I hope you get a chance to check both of them out!
Okay, so Lars and the Real Girl is an odd film. Ryan Gosling plays Lars Lindstrom, an awkward 23 year old who is living in his brothers garage. I don't know why Ryan Gosling loves to pick up the "awkward guy" roles, but he pulls them off! One day, Lars goes to work and his co-worker shows him this website where you can buy anatomically correct sex dolls. Now, at first he is uninterested, but the lonely life got to be too much for him.
After purchasing his lady, Bianca, he introduced her to his brother and sister-in-law, and treated her like a Real Human Being. This concerns his family, so they take a trip to the doctor. Then the doctor explains why Lars is acting the way he is; he needed someone to be with after his father passed away, and his brother and sister-in-law having a baby.
So eventually the town helps out by filling up Bianca's schedule, helping Lars get back to his normal old awkward self. After dropping Bianca off one day, Lars goes bowling with one of his co-workers; one of his female co-workers, who has had a crush on Lars for quite some time. After the conclusion of their bowling adventures, Lars and Margo (the co-worker) talk about how they had a good time, but that Lars would never cheat on Bianca.
A couple days later; Lars is in Bianca's room, crying that she is unconscious. They take her to a hospital, and find that she is dying - Or, more correctly, Lars is ready to move on. So Lars and Bianca share her "last days" together, and have a funeral for her.
This was a surprisingly good film. Very weird, but very good. I would recommend it if you like comedic drama films, but it's definitely not for everyone.
