Beowulf (1999) [Movie Review]

Reading Netflix's description of Beowulf, it states that this film is set in the future. That may be the case, but it certainly does not feel like the future. Now, when I think "future," I think guns and laser guns, fast cars and flying cars, you know; "future" stuff. What you get in this futuristic piece is crossbows, swords, horses, almost nothing in this film is futuristic. The movie didn't have a post-apocalyptic feel, so I can only accept that this was an alternate history, where we advanced slightly more in the middle-ages.

So, let's talk story. This film is based on the the Anglo-Saxon epic poem Beowulf. A lot from the poem had been changed in this movie, and almost every change was for the worse. But I'm going to ignore those in my rating of the review.

This movie is just downright bad. Most of the actors have no idea how to act, they know how to say their lines, but it doesn't feel real. It seemed like the actors tried making their own accent, which was annoying to listen to. And, to top it all off, nothing in the movie made me want to continue watching it. I was never pulled into the story, I only finished it because I had already started it.

Rating: 4/10

Discussion topic: I don't really want to further discuss this film...
