This Is Not a Movie (2011) [Movie Review]

This Is Not a Movie is an interesting movie, to say the least. The world is ending in less than two days, and Pete has locked himself in his Las Vegas hotel room. How does that sound interesting, you might ask? Well, it's not really the most interesting movie in the world, but I'd venture to say that if you were drunk enough, you might actually enjoy this movie. So, while Pete is sitting alone in his hotel room, he explains about the apocalypse. He explains about the times when the U.S. tested nuclear weapons just a couple miles outside of Vegas, people would have bomb viewing parties, and that's why he's deciding to spend his last moments alive in Las Vegas. After a short while, Pete finds that he is not alone in his room as another Pete joins him. Yes, a split personality joins him, and is later joined with yet another split personality.

The whole movie is really all about the personalities fighting, for lack of a better term. One personality is a paranoid loser (that's the first one we meet), another is an alcoholic who just wants to downstairs to gamble some more before he dies (This is the second Pete we meet), and the third is the guy who tells everyone that they are in a movie, while the others don't believe this to be true.

The movie was filled with random bits of anti-propaganda, commercials about The Man, and all commercials sponsored by MOP (The Man: Master of Propaganda). It had an unsatisfactory ending, with Pete meeting the Writer, and the Writer killing himself. The majority of the film is black-and-white, with some bits of color as Pete(s) look out a window or at the TV. It was an interesting concept for a film, but didn't have a very good followthrough.

Rating: 5/10
