Iron Man 3 (2013) [Movie Review]

Iron Man 3 is without-a-doubt the funniest Iron Man to date. Though, I have yet to decide whether or that is a good thing. There are a great number of wonderful additions to the franchise this installment. Armor’s all the way up to Mark 47, Extremis, A.I.M., The Mandarin, more Pepper, more War Machine Iron Patriot, and as always great pieces of dialogue from a great cast.

Now, I love both the Marvel films and the DC films. But for different reasons. Marvel comics are my favorite comics to read, so the fact that being able to watch the Marvel films in a comic book feel is wonderful. I like that the DC Comics are more realistic, making the audience feel as if they could actually live in the world they have created. Both are great ways to make the series, but mixing the two could get a little messy. That said, making Tony more "human" felt odd, but nice.

But this film is also chock-full of the not-so-good things. For any fans of the comic books, you may find yourself being disappointed by a few key members in this film. You also may enjoy the changes; I can’t speak for everyone here. Personally, I didn’t love the changes, but I didn’t mind them. They were all played out very nicely, and I applaud our writer for taking the chance to change things up.

One thing I was looking forward to was more S.H.I.E.L.D. presence. I was a bit disappointed in that sense as well. After beginning the franchise with Iron Man, every subsequent film featured more and more information on S.H.I.E.L.D. or agents from S.H.I.E.L.D.; something. This film, however, lacked any reference to S.H.I.E.L.D. in the slightest. Scratch that, they searched The Mandarin on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s database. But just hearing the name once doesn’t do it justice. Let’s hope that Thor 2 doesn’t disappoint in this aspect.

So while Iron Man 3 is no cinematic masterpiece, but it's still a great watch for fans for the rest of the series. But be prepared for some changes to the source material!

Rating: 6/10
