Star Trek (2009) [Movie Review]

To start this review, I would like to express the fact that I have never seen any other incarnation of Star Trek. I never watched any of the TV series', I never watched any of the original movies, this is the first exposure to Star Trek I have ever received.

While the film started fairly slow, it seemed painfully obvious that the beginning was more about pleasing the fans than anything else. But after all of our introductions were done, the story kicked right in. And doesn't matter if you're a Trekkie or not, this film has something for everyone. It has a love story, albeit minimal. It has action, guns, and explosions; at the risk of sounding sexist - guy stuff. And some other stuff that probably isn't worth mentioning.

As I stated, the beginning of the film is definitely it's downfall. Sure, seeing Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk was great, but that doesn't make up for the fact that his kid ruined a beautiful car for seemingly no reason. Chris Pine did a great job on his part as Kirk, from what I could tell. And Zachary Quinto also played a marvelous Spock. Again, I haven't seen any other versions of Star Trek, so I don't know how these characters are supposed to be. But what I saw, I liked. I look forward to it's sequel.

Rating: 8/10
