The Great Gatsby (1974) [Movie Review]

Anxiously awaiting the release of the new adaption of F. Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, I decided to watch the original adaptions first. I had already read the book multiple times, and watched a large chunk of the 2001 version, but I want all of the information fresh in my head for the new release. Yesterday I re-read the book. It's as amazing as I remembered! Today was the day for the first film adaptation.

And what a disappointment it was. Everything that was great about the book was lost in this film. None of the characters showed emotion. They simply knew the words they needed to say, and went through the motions. How this film won an Oscar is beyond me, let alone two! But that may simply be my opinion. It is nice seeing the book get the attention it deserves, but this was terrible adaptation. Here's to hoping the 2013 version is much better!

Rating: 6/10
