Currently sitting at #13 on IMDb's top 250, a member of the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die, Christopher Lloyd's first film role, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is definitely a great film.
Jack Nicholson stars as R.P. McMurphy, just transferred from the work farm to the looney bin. Murphy is seemingly a lost cause. He doesn't follow rules, he makes life a living hell for head nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), he's just plain crazy. But still the doctor's have a hard time believing he's crazy. They know he's dangerous, but can't quite make out if he's crazy or not. It doesn't take long before McMurphy decides he wants to break out.
That plot synopsis does not do the film justice, but a full plot synopsis would ruin most of the film.
Jack Nicholson sure knows how to play a crazy person. Hell, every actor in this film played their roles perfectly. I felt as if I had wandered into a mental institution. Just amazing acting, well deserving of the Oscar wins.
Having not read the book, I have no idea how faithful the film was to the book. Not that it matters in the slightest, movies are better when they aren't the exact same thing as the book. And I'm sure I've mentioned that before in my reviews. Anyway, everything about the movie was great. Beautifully written, and had a superb ending that you won't see coming.
I highly recommend this film.
