Driving Miss Daisy (1989) [Movie Review]

Spanning over the course of 25 years, Driving Miss Daisy chronicles the relationship between Hoke (Morgan Freeman) and Daisy (Jessica Tandy). After an incident while driving, Daisy loses her license; so her son, Boolie (Dan Aykroyd), hires Hoke to be her chauffeur. At the beginning of our journey, Daisy is extremely prejudiced, but as she spends more and more time with Hoke, she slowly becomes more and more loving to the colored folk.

Now, this film won some awards, and it's plain to see why it did. It has beautiful camera placement, for starters, they really used mirrors to their advantage. We also get creative transitions for the changing of the years. Instead of showing the dates at the bottom, the viewer finds out what year, and roughly what month, from paying attention to the scenes; such as the date being on a Christmas card, or a trophy. Beautiful transitions. Not that I need to mention this, but the acting was also amazing. Morgan Freeman sure knows what he's doing! The ending may not have been the best, but it was still a great way to end the film, and at least you can't see it coming a mile away. A definite watch for any cinema fan.

Rating: 9/10

Discussion topic: In the movie, Hoke was offered another job, and the new employer would pay him whatever salary he wanted. Would you take the new job to get more money, or stick with the old job that you (hopefully) love?
