Garden State follows the story of Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) who is very socially awkward and has been heavily medicated for the majority of his life. After the passing of his mother, he returns home for the funeral and must confront his family and friends. While back, he finds another slightly socially girl; Sam (Natalie Portman), a girl obsessed with lying. The film mostly follows the progression of Sam and Andrew's relationship.
This film takes a long time to pick up. The entire first half hour is just boring and doesn't really add all that much to the story. But after we meet Sam, we start learning a lot about Andrew and a little about Sam. The film never creates a sense of amazing-ness, but it's a nice love story, with a slightly cheesy ending.

Discussion topic: Andrew's psychiatrist is his father. Would you let a family member be your psychiatrist?
