Warm Bodies takes your average, overused, plot for zombie movies and just throws it away. This film is a completely fresh take on the zombie outbreaks. Warm Bodies follows the story of R (Nicholas Hoult), a zombie who tries to figure out how the zombie epidemic started. All R can remember about his past life is that his name started with an "R" and that, judging by his clothes, he was unemployed. One day, while searching for food, R stumbles upon a group of humans. He eats one, and apparently eating someones brains gives you their memories, then saves a girl, Julie (Teresa Palmer), the girlfriend of the man he just ate. Over the next couple of days, R attempts to talk to her and befriend her. Even he doesn't truly know his intentions. While all of this is happening, R begins to feel again. He has a slight heartbeat now, he can feel the coldness around him, he can even dream! The awkward love between R and Julie triggers something in the rest of the zombies, and somehow cures the plague.
Overall, Warm Bodies was an excellent film. There is a lot of room for improvement in certain areas, such as length of the film. Many parts felt rushed, and R seemed to change too quickly. If the film would have been longer, we could have seen a more "realistic" change for R. Other than the fact that the zombies seemed to evolve too fast, the acting was quite nice, with the exception of Teresa Palmer; she was good at the beginning and the end, but in the middle, when she was supposed to be scared of R, she was not very good. This movie is pretty funny, but it's not hilarious. There's not many jokes, most of the humor sprouts from R's awkward self.
Rating: 7/10
Discussion topic: When R tells Julie that he was the one who killed and ate her boyfriend, Julie get's mad and feels hurt by R. R being a zombie, it's his nature and only means of survival to eat, so do you think that it would acceptable to be mad about that? (Obviously, everyone overreacts to everything at first, I mean after they've had time to think about it.)
