Pitch Perfect (2012) [Movie Review]

If you are die hard music fan, then this is the film for you! If your not, then many of the jokes will seem kind of lame, such as the many puns featuring "pitch" and "acappella."

Anyway, in Perfect Pitch, we follow the college life of Beca (Anna Kendrick). Beca's father forces her to join some sort of club, so she decides to take up an offer to join The Bella's, the campus' all-female acappella group. The school has multiple acappella groups, but the main ones are The Bella's and the Treblemakers, who are constantly feuding. But Jesse (Skylar Astin), of the Treblemakers, has a crush on Beca, which causes drama for The Bella's.

Ultimately, this movie was comedic, but far too many jokes were just puns on musical terms. The music was covered beautifully, but that is kind of a must in a music film. The acting was good, but could have been improved on for the more minor characters. And speaking of minor characters, it would have been nice to learn a little more about them, especially a little backstory on the boys from the Teblemakers - which we learn nothing about. But the biggest problem with this film is that Beca at one point says she doesn't like movies because the endings are always so predictable, yet this film had one of the most predictable endings ever. It's possible that was supposed to be ironic, but in my opinion it's lazy writing either way. Overall a fun film, but nothing special.

Rating: 7/10
