Mysterious Skin is the story of two children who were sexually abused by their baseball coach as children, and how it affects their adult lives. One; Neil McCormick (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) goes on to become a prostitute, and the other; Brian Lackey can't remember what happened, and thinks he was abducted by aliens. Brian tries to figure out what happened to him, and the only way to do that is by contacting Neil and filling in the blanks.
This film is definitely a film you need to watch alone. Other people around are simply distractions from the emotions this film employs. That being said, Mysterious Skin is an amazing film that seemed to truly capture the lives of sexually abused victim's; which is a place not many films even attempt to hit on. It's been called one of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's best work, and it's clear to see why.
