Upon the failure of he first G.I. Joe live action film, someone thought it would be a good idea to make a sequel. Not sure why, but it happened. The sequel is better, if anyone was wondering.
Since this film gives a nice re-cap of what happens in the first film, and gives information for each character at the beginning, you don't even need to see the first film! Talk about thoughtful! Oh, but you will need to know one thing about the first film and that is, and obviously this is a spoiler... the president is actually Zartan, and hopefully you caught that he is in disguise.
Now, let's dive into this film. After a successful mission for the Joes, the "president" informs the world that the Joes acted alone, and has taken it upon himself to terminate the team with extreme prejudice. But, come on, these guys are G.I. Joes! Of course they, er, some of them will survive. The surviving Joes go on a mission to find out what happened, eventually learning of the unusual behavior of the president. At the same time, we have Cobra Commander (Luke Bracey) being broken out of his special prison cell and reclaiming his place as leader of the Cobras. With the Joes' newfound knowledge of our Commander-in-Chief, they are going to need help from an old friend, General Joe Colton (Bruce Willis) and yes, the Joes are named after him. And though he may be old, he still knows how to fight. And, well, then they fight. The government and the Cobras. With a few touching moments between some characters along the way.
This film was in many ways better than the first. Still not great, but good. If you're a fan of the Joes, you will probably like this one. If you like solid action movies, you will probably enjoy this film. But if you are none of the above, there isn't in this film for you. For me, I enjoyed it. Nothing too special, but when I get to see Bruce Willis take up a role of the calm yet bad-ass I can't help but smile.
