We've all heard the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. However, for most of us, it's been a while, me included. From the trailers, this film didn't stick out as an "amazing" film at all. The whole thing looked mediocre, but I knew it would be worth a glance, at the very least.
So, our story here focuses mainly on the love between Jack (Nicholas Hoult) and Isabelle (Eleanor Tomlinson). Jack is a poor farmer who wanders into town to sell a horse, Isabelle is the princess. Oh how fairy tales work. Anyway, Jack sees Isabelle is being treated poorly, and goes to her rescue. Isabelle runs away from the castle after an argument with her father, and just happens to find Jacks house, where the beanstalk grows, carrying the house with her in to the place between Heaven and Earth, but Jack is left on the ground. Then the king decides to send a crew up to rescue her, among the group is the leader of the group Elmont (Ewan McGregor), Jack, and Isabelle's husband-to-be Roderick (Stanley Tucci). But Roderick has other plans in mind, and soon turns on the crew. Ultimately leading up to yet another film with a sub-par ending.
I was definitely not expecting much from this film, and that's a good thing. The acting was very bad, only a few good performances shined through. There is a CGI scene towards the beginning depicting the original battle with the giants, and it was some of the worse animations I'd seen in years, it was possibly intentional, but still terrible. But probably the worse thing about the movie was that it so damn predictable. If you think something is going to happen soon, it will probably happen soon. Overall, this film isn't worth the money you're paying for it. I'd throw a "pass" sticker on it, but I don't want to waste all of my stickers either...
