The Warriors (1979) [Movie Review]

Warriors... come out to play-i-ay! In this cinematic adventure, the gangs and the cops rule the streets. All gangs fight each other, until one leader, Cyrus (Roger Hill) calls for a truce. If they can all work together, they can overpower the cops, and take the world for themselves, instead of their "turfs". Can you dig it? All gangs seem to be very happy about this idea, all except one, who's leader takes it upon himself to shoot Cyrus, and blame the Warriors. So now the gang Cyrus lead, The Riffs, want to "talk" to the Warriors, but they will take them either dead or alive. Every gang in the state is now looking for the Warriors. After the shooting, the leader of the Warriors was never seen from again, so throughout the film, two members fought over leadership. Swan (Michael Beck), the wise leader, and Ajax (James Remar), the angry, tough leader. The entire film is simply them trying to get home, but have many gangs and cops to fight on the way.

Having a radio host subtly broadcast the threats and updates was a very cool way to prove the power the Riffs have. The whole film was a treat, having a more neutral protagonist is always more fun than one who is either all about murder or all about helping people. The Warriors only cared about themselves, and that made it a little better, for me that is. Many of the gangs featured in the film, however, were very impractical. Interesting, but impractical; such as the gang that wears baseball shirts, face paint, but only uses baseball bats as weapons. They can't be too tough... Overall, The Warriors is a great film, and I highly recommend viewing it.
